Thursday, October 4, 5:30 p.m.: The IPRH Film Series continues with a screening and discussion of TRULY MADLY DEEPLY (1991), directed by Anthony Minghella and starring Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson, and how it relates to the year-long theme of “rupture.” Sponsored by the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities. @ KAM Auditorium (Room 62), Krannert Art Museum, UIUC, 500 E. Thursday, October 4, 7 p.m.: The fall Human Rights Film Series moves forward with FARMINGVILLE, about a violent hate crime that polarized low-wage illegal immigrants and “the locals” living in Farmingville, NY. The series concludes a week from Thursday with LETTERS FROM THE OTHER SIDE (Oct. 11). Discussion and refreshments follow the screenings. @ Illinois Disciples Foundation, 610 E. Thursday, October 4: The first episode of ONE FINE DAY!, a student-produced drama about four resident assistants living and working at the University of Illinois, is set to go live on YouTube.com on this date. Created by seniors Derek Klein and Marc Morin, Jr., the program stars fellow undergrads Kevin Zaideman, Elisha Reichert, Robert Dignan, and Daniel Papas. Click for more
Tuesday, October 9 through Tuesday, October 16: Another show with a much higher profile will be previewed in Bloomington-Normal before its fourth season commences in late October. Episodes of the PBS-TV program ART:21, an innovative series that profiles contemporary artists in the United States, will be shown in tandem with discussion sessions at the McLean County Arts Center and University Galleries. “Romance” 10/9, 7 p.m. @ MCAC, 601 N. Wednesday, October 10, 7 p.m.: Screening and discussion of the straight-from-the-festival-circuit documentary HELVETICA (2007), which takes a look at the 50-year-old Swiss typeface and how it factors globally in the worlds of graphic design and communications. Director Gary Hustwit previously earned his cinema street cred as founder of Plexifilm and producer of films about Death Cab for Cutie, Robert Moog, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, Saddle Creek, and Wilco.
