15 Years Ago … Friday, April 17, 2009: Participating in the annual Boneyard Arts Festival for the first time, C-U Confidential sponsors an event at Caffe Paradiso on the University of Illinois campus to share films by area filmmakers. “Local Cinema @ Paradiso,” or the “C-U Confidential Local Movie Show,” compiles more than 20 trailers, shorts, and Webisodes that pique the interest of a steady crowd. Luke Boyce of Shatterglass Studios provides the sound and projection, the UI student creators of ONE FINE DAY and A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW make an appearance to discuss their projects with host Jason Pankoke, and composer Todd Mazierski’s cuts from the soundtrack of the documentary HOOPESTON set the mood during intermissions. Attendee Sanford Hess would soon convince Pankoke that a similar event of larger scope made perfect programming sense for a venue he was looking to purchase, the Art Theater in Champaign.
