FIELD REPORT DU HQ | From Wherever It May Be Said
This week, we have three quick hits on local filmmaking activity. First, it looks as if Dreamscape Cinema is unloading wares on two fronts, starting with the unpublicized streaming debut of their dormant shark thriller BELOW via Amazon Prime as of this past Tuesday, October 18; starring Logan Borsari, Audra Schildhouse, and Garrett Foster, the 70-minute-long feature was originally filmed in the Kickapoo Creek Recreation Area near Danville in the summer of 2018, along with water-bound pickup shots in Chicago, Kankakee, and St. Louis. The studio is also hosting a clearance sale of costumes and props from various productions at their 403 W. Water Street location in Champaign from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 21, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, if you have the need for such things in the spooky season.
And then, the “home for independent storytelling in Champaign, Illinois” that is Camp Nostalgic Studios has released a new short subject for Halloween called ROUTINE, starring Katherine Bokenkamp and Pam Erickson and directed by Chase Todd; you can view their spin on the folk tale involving cemeteries at Facebook or the group’s website. Comprised of Dave Rediger, Alex Duquette, Gela Rediger, and their associate campers and talents, Camp Nostalgic shares videos online almost every week – they often fall in the realms of humor, documentary, animation, and music video – and is partnering with other DIY culture hot spots in the area, such as Rebelsfare Collective in Oakwood, Chase & Shep in Savoy, and Champaign-Urbana Comedy in the C-U, to create original content. Check ‘em out!
To conclude, we’ve discovered evidence in the last few days of a Champaign County location shoot from a year-and-a-half ago that no one decided to tell us about in the course of looking up details about a mid-Nineties VHS bootleg scheme in Champaign County that your humble editor couldn’t otherwise recall. (No joke.) The Chicagoland-based project, YOU’RE OUT!, is a baseball comedy from Stay the Course Productions and Ladie K Productions that is deep in post-production according to current Facebook posts; you can watch a visit to the set at Parkland College by Erin Valle of WCIA-TV, in which she interviews lead actor Shannon Brown, producer Sandy De Lisle, and director Katharin Mraz, or flip through a nicely detailed “pitch deck” at the official website for the film that demonstrates how its makers are aiming to cover the bases, as it were, with inclusion practices on an indie budget as well as appealing to many demographics.
