FIELD REPORT DU HQ | From Wherever It May Be Said
In a nice change of pace, a modest flood of local film presentations and achievements is now upon us. Believe it or not, it may run parallel with a handful of posts from Ye Ed over the next few weeks apart from Calendars. Sadly, it took an unusual amount of effort unnecessary in previous years to compile and share the “Ebertfest” itinerary in time for Ebertfest itself, so maybe it helps to break up whatever blogger’s block has been dogging me. (Even then, it’s already out of date; Chaz Ebert announced in her opening remarks on Tuesday night that Guillermo del Toro and Kim Morgan would not appear in person because of a surgery the former will be having.) Since I’ve been struggling with drafting articles, no one should be surprised at this point that I also couldn’t work up enough oomph to throw together a short-run digest marking the 15th anniversary of C-U Confidential like I’ve been hinting lately. All I have to show for that flirtation is the Almanac entry below, so, now I can instead channel my renewed energy online.

15 Years Ago … Wednesday, April 25, 2007: In an effort to expand awareness of their on-line forum, C-U Blogfidential, Opteryx Press of Champaign rebrands as Paper Opteryx and releases a companion digest, C-U Confidential. At 36 pages long, CUZine #1 provides a capsule look at downstate Illinois film culture for both Champaign-Urbana residents and patrons of Roger Ebert’s Overlooked Film Festival, returning this evening to the Virginia Theatre with GATTACA as its opening selection. The free-to-keep publication features recent CUBlog bulletins as well as excerpts from interviews with local filmmakers Jason Butler, Chris Lukeman, Eleanore Stasheff, and Alaric Rocha. [R]
