FIELD REPORT DU HQ | From Wherever It May Be Said
As of late, I can’t post the weekly Calendar on time to save my soul. “So what,” I hear the Black Lectroid say in my head from the end of BUCKAROO BANZAI, “big deal.” All I can do right now is the best I can do, and to achieve it here on a late Sunday afternoon I’ll play a quick three-and-out. First, be sure to skim the schedule of the Normal Theater in downtown Normal; they’re basically taking over “Shocktober” from the late Art Theater without the branding, but Halloween movies are Halloween movies and therefore welcome en masse, right? The presence of a Rankin-Bass puppet animation (MAD MONSTER PARTY), a Godzilla all-star romp (DESTROY ALL MONSTERS), vintage frighteners from Joe Dante and David Cronenberg (THE HOWLING, THE BROOD), one of my favorite Eighties movies (BEETLEJUICE), and possibly the best pre-1970 horror anthology ever (DEAD OF NIGHT) shows the programmers are happily thinking outside the coffin. And then, check out yours truly discussing another Eighties favorite, KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, on the Chase & Shep Show with hosts Chase Todd and Aaron Sheppard; I may appear one or two more times in this run of “31 Slays” episodes with 31 daily reviews of horror film standards through the end of October, so watch Facebook for announcements. Ending with a perk – er, make it two perks – I wish CUBlog supporter Jason Croft the best of birthday weekends and point you towards his twin fall releases, Bachelor Pad Magazine issue 57 and the even naughtier Tattoo Nightcap #3, for which I had the pleasure of moonlighting as proofreader. Yes, there are words, too.
