FIELD REPORT DU HQ | From Wherever It May Be Said
If the world is allegedly falling apart right before our eyes, and that includes everything bludgeoning our senses through the mass media, then any little band-aid you can afford to apply will help. You don’t need me to find opportunities all around to pitch in, but here are suggestions. Articles at NPR and USA Today discuss the avenues through which, respectively, we can provide aid to those in Haiti suffering the aftermath of yet another earthquake as well as those attempting to flee the Taliban-held Afghanistan. Much closer to home, downstate Gibson City was engulfed by flooding last week and their townsfolk are struggling to clean up. The owners of the Harvest Moon Twin Drive-In are turning their own fundraiser into a donation site for their neighbors, given how their customer base managed to meet their original $5,000 goal in just over a day. And then, close to the heart, we feel for our friend Gerry Kissell, the Missouri-based science-fiction and wartime artist and podcaster who lost nearly all his possessions in a house fire; here is a campaign to help Kissell and family get back on their feet. Step up. Do good.
