FIELD REPORT DU HQ | From Wherever It May Be Said
Looks like we have a three-peat this week, aficionados, with three timely topics to check out for the third week straight! First up is a brand-new venture from sisters Chasadee and Shatyra Hawkins of Urbana called Chambana Backyard Movies, which provides clients with a giant inflatable screen, sound system, and more for that perfect night in – meaning, outside and in the dark while watching a favorite flick! WCIA-TV aired a brief segment on Monday about their service. Back to brick-and-mortar showbiz, we noticed that Pens to Lens is absent from the new season announced for the Virginia Theatre and presume it will be a livestreamed event like a year ago. The deadline for student-made films to be entered remains next Wednesday, June 30, so be sure to review the competition rules at their website, kids, and contact them by writing students [at] penstolens [dot] com if there are last-minute questions or a need for an extension. To end as the weekend begins, former playwright and C-U theater mainstay Aaron Polk devotes his keyboard time lately to drafting essays on the cinema, fortified with keen observation and fleshed out with honest personal asides, for his WordPress ‘blog called Cinematic Rabbit Hole. He also appears on the locally produced Mashley at the Movies podcast. We hope his birthday today is the best.
