Naturally, this is the week I wanted to claim I’d be resuming Calendar posts on Fridays, given that actual brand-new movies are opening at actual open theaters in the area, but the industry is pushing release dates of the big guns back yet again thanks to what is being learned about the so-so stateside box office numbers of TENET and what Warner Bros. isn’t readily divulging about them. We do have other motivations to get cracking and offer local event dates in a timely fashion, though. Even with a national debate percolating over whether the University of Illinois’ research and application of COVID-19 testing on the Urbana campus is honestly effective, the higher learning life continues and that includes students. If you are enrolled at UIUC or know undergraduates who are interested in media studies and production outside of the virtual classroom, please hit or share these C-U Cinefile, For Art’s Sake, and Illini Film & Video links and sign up for announcements using the contacts immediately below. The groups have reconvened in limited fashion for the semester, because why not? Now is as good a time as any to be inquisitive and remain creative in all pursuits, including the cinema and despite restrictions.
