CUZine ’99 now booking ads!
In the coming year as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of doing that MICRO-FILM thing we do, you will be hearing about numerous dates to jot down, places to show up, and physical products to get your hands on. To that end, we are jumping ahead a couple of points on the projected timeline and confirming that C-U Confidential, the digest of the Movies of Champaign, Urbana, and the Cities Beyond, will indeed return at the end of 2009!
This “off season” one-shot – meaning, it’s in addition to the annual which streets during Roger Ebert’s Film Festival in April – will meld together two high-minded concepts that even your humble low-brow editor can understand. Imagine a mash-up between a 10th anniversary MICRO-FILM edition that technically isn’t MF and a “what-if” issue of C-U Confidential that approximates (to a point) what CUZine might have looked like had it arrived in October 1999 instead of MF 1, and you have a rough idea of where we’re headed. Yes, Virginia, it will be a trip across space, time, and MICRO-FILM Country the likes of which you’ve never read before.
Ultimately, CU99 will be a creative contemplation of what it was, what it is, and what it still can be for the movies and their makers coexisting in downstate Illinois with friends, neighbors, and colleagues who still might not quite “get it” when their cameras are turned on and all bets are otherwise off. We’ll discuss several aspects of movie culture in the Midwest, both the good and the not-so-hot, with several trusted allies who will share their valuable knowledge and experiences with us.
CU99 will also be the first publication in the Confidential era intended to perch atop counters and book shelves in retail establishments, so we need your support in our attempt to branch back out into the scary “real world.” Check out our new, reduced rates that we’ve just posted; your deadline for submitting artwork and payment is coming up very shortly – Friday, November 20, 2009, 5 p.m. – so please consider taking advantage of the price break in the name of promoting your own talents and work as well as backing up the mission of C-U Confidential. Thanks for sticking with us!

p.s. Just to make things interesting, those who say the secret word to us can learn about an unadvertised special relating to our next publication which we have yet to announce publicly. Ooooh, the intrigue!
p.s.2 The deadline has been pushed back now that CU99 will not come out until late January. We’ll post updated information soon!
